Leading law firm Wragge & Co working with Objectsoft – June 2002

Wragge & Co and Objectsoft were engaged (2002) in a pathfinder project to understand the practical implications of deploying digital certificates for use by legal professionals in an e-conveyancing business context. The secure transfer of and legitimate access to commercially sensitive information is critical to the current e-conveyancing consultation published by HM Land Registry (England and Wales) which intends to develop an electronic conveyancing system that will require digitally signed e-conveyancing documents from all the parties engaged in high-value property transactions.

Property partner David Pettingale explains, "As lawyers we need to understand how, in real life, we and our clients will be able to obtain digital credentials and use them to sign documents in electronic form. This is an essential step in the move towards paperless electronic conveyancing and we hope the pilot project we are undertaking with Objectsoft will enable key practical issues to be identified and overcome."
